Egypt Aims to Lead Regional Electronics Industry with Launch of CPE-VDSL Router Manufacturing
Cairo, Egypt – Egypt is poised to emerge as a dominant force in the regional electronics industry with the inauguration of the first Egyptian CPE-VDSL Router peripherals manufacturing. Spearheaded by Dr. Amr Talaat, Technology, the signing of pivotal contracts for the design and development of cutting-edge CPE-VDSL Router peripherals signals a significant leap forward in Egypt’s commitment to ICT development.
The project, in alignment with the Egypt Makes Electronics (EME) presidential initiative, is geared towards introducing locally designed and manufactured high-speed internet routers, thereby bolstering local manufacturing and reducing reliance on electronic imports.
In a joint effort between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), Telecom Egypt, and select local companies, contracts have been inked to pave the way for the creation of innovative CPE routers. Noteworthy signatories include ITIDA’s CEO, Engineer Ahmed ELZaher, and the Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt, Engineer Mohamed Nasr. Additionally, representatives from El Sewedy Electrometer Group (EMG), ElAraby Group, BioBusiness Egypt, and HitekNOFAL OPTIX Alliance have committed to the design phase of the project.
Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, hailed the signing as a pivotal moment in cooperation, emphasizing the importance of partnerships with the private sector in Egypt’s journey towards becoming a regional electronics industry leader. Dr. Talaat underscored the government’s ambition to achieve self-sufficiency in the local market while expanding the export footprint of Egyptian electronic products globally.
Furthermore, Dr. Talaat highlighted recent agreements with companies to localize the electronics industry, particularly in the realm of mobile phone manufacturing, as part of the broader strategy to add tangible value to Egypt’s electronic ecosystem.
Ahmed ELZaher, CEO of ITIDA, reiterated the agency’s commitment to advancing the information technology sector through tailored programs and initiatives. ELZaher emphasized the collaborative nature of the contracts, focusing on delivering high-quality, cost-effective Egyptian products tailored to meet local market demands.
